Overview

This course will equip you with a basic understanding of airfield lighting systems, its components how they operate and how they perform to ensure a compliant lighting system is maintained at your aerodrome.

The course is intended as an introduction for people working on airports who have not received specialist training on airfield lighting or as a refresher for those who already have some experience.

Note: This is not an electrical qualification but provides those with qualifications an overview of lighting in an airport context.

Overview

The course is aimed at new Airport Reporting Officers (AROs) and Works Safety Officers (WSOs) and for those individuals already in these roles who are looking to maintain and improve their knowledge and skills in the performance of their duties.

The course provides the theoretical knowledge for those who perform an ARO or WSO role (which are often combined) at an airport or Aerodrome.

The full-length course details the skills and knowledge required to facilitate the safety of aerodrome operations, in compliance with the regulatory requirements of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and national operating standards. It equips participants – particularly those operating in or requiring access to Security Restricted Areas (SRAs) – with the essential subjects required under regulation along with the knowledge and skills to maintain a secure aviation environment.

The course supports strong security culture across airports, airlines, RACA operations, inflight supplies, and contracted services. Participants gain a clear understanding of potential threats, foundational security measures, access control processes, and their responsibilities in supporting an effective security program. This interactive e-learning ensures learners are confident, compliant, and capable of contributing to secure operations, aligned with both national and international aviation security standards.
